Mataro Dolls actively collaborates with a variety of works with the goal of making traditional craftsmanship more accessible and enjoyable in everyday life.

In 2019, the company created an Edo Kimekomi doll of Pikachu, followed by Dratini last year, both of which attracted significant attention. This year, Ponyta known for its flame-like mane and gentle gaze has been carefully recreated using traditional craftsmanship techniques.

The “Edo Kimekomi Doll Ponyta” beautifully combines the soft texture unique to Kimekomi dolls with the delicate handiwork of skilled artisans. Ponyta’s fiery mane is expressed through vivid colors and graceful curves, showcasing exceptional craftsmanship down to the smallest details.

The artisan responsible for the piece commented:

“We aimed to preserve Ponyta’s distinctive characteristics while also conveying the warmth unique to Kimekomi craftsmanship.”

True to those words, the doll’s rich expression and elegant sculptural beauty highlight the charm of traditional techniques.

The “Edo Kimekomi Doll Ponyta” can be enjoyed not only as a New Year decoration, but also as an interior display throughout the year.

Through this work, created using the Edo Kimekomi doll-making technique with over 280 years of history, we hope more people will discover the beauty of traditional Japanese craftsmanship.
