From Fine Molds comes a meticulously detailed 1/48 scale model of the Imperial Japanese Navy Zero Fighter Type 52 Model A (Mitsubishi variant)—a refined version of the legendary Zero with upgraded weaponry and structural revisions.

The Model A (commonly known as Type 52 Ko) features improved armament over the standard Type 52, including an updated belt-fed 20mm cannon (Type 99 Model 2 No. 4), which replaced the earlier drum-fed system to increase ammo capacity from 100 to 125 rounds per gun. These modifications led to structural changes such as the removal of the teardrop-shaped bulges beneath the wings and the addition of trapezoidal covers at the gun ports on the leading edge.

This Mitsubishi-built variant also includes the company’s distinctive short heat-resistant exhaust plates, faithfully reproduced here for the first time in 1/48 scale. The model is crafted using newly designed molds to accurately capture these unique features.

Decals are included for aircraft from both the 343rd Naval Air Group and 221st Naval Air Group, with markings from the 343rd based on an actual surviving aircraft currently preserved at the JASDF Hamamatsu Air Park.
