Celebrating the legendary 500 TYPE EVA, this premium Hakone Yosegi Music Box blends traditional Japanese craftsmanship with the unforgettable world of Evangelion in a truly refined collector’s piece.

The lid is beautifully designed with the official 500 TYPE EVA logo, while the surrounding surfaces and sides are decorated with intricate traditional patterns crafted using authentic Hakone Yosegi marquetry. Inside, a visual card of 500 TYPE EVA is set into the mirrored panel, and the interior is lined with rich purple velvet-style fabric inspired by Unit-01’s signature colors, creating an elegant space to store cherished items.

This 23-note music box performs specially arranged versions of the two onboard train chimes used in the 500 TYPE EVA, including “A Cruel Angel’s Thesis.” With its wide tonal range and clear, resonant sound, it faithfully recreates the melodies that once echoed through the train cars. The visible cylinder movement adds a charming mechanical touch, while the acrylic window is decorated with both the NERV emblem and the Emergency Mark.

The 500 Series Shinkansen “500 TYPE EVA” operated from November 2015 to May 2018, commemorating the 40th anniversary of the full opening of the Sanyo Shinkansen and the 20th anniversary of the TV broadcast of Neon Genesis Evangelion. After its retirement, it has been exhibited at the Kyoto Railway Museum, captivating both anime and railway fans alike.

Crafted using traditional Hakone Yosegi marquetry—an officially designated traditional Japanese craft from Hakone, Kanagawa—this piece showcases the art of combining over 50 types of natural wood to create precise geometric patterns. Thin sheets are carefully shaved from patterned wood blocks and hand-applied to the surface using the classic “zuku” technique, resulting in a harmonious fusion of heritage craftsmanship and modern pop culture.
