The 1/700 Ship NX-1 - Imperial Japanese Navy - Battleship Yamato (Plastic Model) [Fujimi] brings to life the legendary battleship Yamato in a meticulously crafted model kit.

As the first of the Yamato-class battleships, Yamato was commissioned in December 1941, standing as the pinnacle of Japanese naval engineering. With a standard displacement of 64,000 tons and 46 cm main guns, it was the most powerful battleship of its time, serving as the flagship of the Combined Fleet. Notably, it was the command ship of Admiral Isoroku Yamamoto during the Battle of Midway.

As naval warfare evolved with the dominance of aircraft, Yamato underwent modifications, increasing its anti-aircraft capabilities at the expense of some secondary armament. It took part in Operation Sho-Ichi-Go/Leyte Gulf in 1944 and was ultimately dispatched in April 1945 in a desperate mission to counter the U.S. forces landing in Okinawa. The ship met its end under a relentless assault by American carrier-based aircraft.

The hull is split into left and right sections at the waterline and molded in a special gray color that replicates the warship shade used at Kure Naval Arsenal. The model accurately recreates the ship’s outer hull electrical wiring, porthole details, and the bulbous bow with a three-dimensional shape. The main gun is designed for both elevation and rotation, with a slide-molded open barrel for precision detailing. The secondary guns follow suit, featuring rotatable turrets and an integrated structure.

The bridge and chimney are carefully engineered with slide molds to ensure minimal seams and an authentic structure. Additional elements such as the No. 22 radar, an expanded signal deck, and a detailed mast incorporating the No. 13 radar enhance historical accuracy. The kit includes two aircraft—a Zero reconnaissance seaplane and a Zero observation aircraft—both molded in dark green with recessed panel lines. Pre-cut stickers make it easy to add details like naval flags, insignia, and waterproof canvas, while a display base and bonus adhesive parts, including machine gun ammunition boxes and antenna supports, offer modelers an extra level of precision.

This 1/700 scale model kit faithfully captures the grandeur and historical significance of Yamato, offering a rewarding build for history and model ship enthusiasts alike.
